The Municipality of Tomiño has completed restoration of an ancient medieval bridge located between the parishes of San Salvador de Piñeiro and San Salvador de Sobrada, built over the Furnia River.
Of cultural interest is a listed municipal road, the ancient road that connected Tui with the Hospital de Tomiñés neighborhood, known for hosting a pilgrim hospital, ruins of which still remain today. Made mostly of irregular stone, it features a single, medium-length arch with a total length of 15 meters.
The structure was closed for a time, warnings of its dangerousness, as it was in a state of severe deterioration due to the passage of time and rain. Given that there was no damage to the lower parts of the arch and a small unused excavation in the upper section, it was suspected that leaks from the upper wall had washed the recheo material inside, causing damage to the riverbank and leaving the arch intact.
To restore the bridge to its original state and maintain it in optimal safety conditions, as well as to preserve the architectural heritage of the Municipality of Tomiño, work was carried out to reconstruct the arm (lower structure of the arch), clean the grain, and consolidate and seal the upper section.
