Because they say at San Martino every must becomes wine: ancient traditions

November 11th is celebrated in many localities and rural areas and has always been an important date in the rural world: it indicates the end of the harvest cycle in the fields; in fact, in the monarchic era in northern Italy, all seasonal contracts in the agricultural fields began and ended on November 11th, and after this date the laborers moved away, so much so that in many areas of the North the saying "fare San Martino" was born ”, by which we mean “to move”. But why is it said that on San Martino every must becomes wine? Because it has become the day to taste new wine (not to be confused with new wine). Behind this saying, it is said that a drunkard on a stormy night decided to stop in a cellar and put a barrel of wine behind him so as not to disturb his wife, who was about to give birth. The following day, however, he was found dead from the cold and next to him there was a vine full of grapes that had become wine inside a barrel that was magically always full. According to one version, the dead man is San Martino.
