Monteruga (LE), ghost town salento
Monteruga is an abandoned village in the Salento countryside. It is the typical village that arose during the twenty years of fascism thanks to the Ente Riforma. Its splendor reached it during the 1950s, when the agricultural lands were expropriated and assigned to the farmers who settled there. This characteristic village, not ancient, but already a victim of time, derives from the expansion of the farm of the same name and, after having been the most important agricultural center in the area, is now a destination for few tourists.
