Many know it but many others are curious to know what the history of the Cinquecento is. This small car has marked the lives of many Italians (I don't think anyone over thirty has ever been in a Fiat 500) and even today, as it passes by, people and children turn around in amusement. The popularity of the "cinquino" has meant that today, compared to the five million units produced, there are still 600,000 in circulation. The Fiat 500 is a car produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat from 1957 to 1975. The 500 was conceived as an economical small car, destined to motorise post-war Italy. The original design was the work of Dante Giacosa, one of the most famous Italian automotive designers. The Fiat 500 was presented on 4 July 1957 and immediately stood out for its compact dimensions, air-cooled rear engine and affordable price. The initial model, known as the Fiat 500 N, had a 479 cc engine that developed 13 horsepower and a top speed of around 85 km/h. This version, although very basic, managed to win the hearts of Italians thanks to its simplicity and functionality The Fiat 500 is not just a car, but a symbol of rebirth and innovation. From the first model in 1957 to the last Cinquecento produced on 1 August 1975, with chassis number 5231518, the 500 marked an era and continues to be loved throughout the world.
